As the legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle said, the ocean is Earth’s blue heart – it sustains us and all we love. As we commit to respecting planet Earth, let’s remember that without blue, there is no green and we need healthy oceans to fight climate change.

“Preserving, protecting, and restoring our waters are tasks for many lifetimes, and sometimes the effort can seem overwhelming. But as long as we stay connected with all of the many, many blessings that water provides, and continue to keep that love in the forefront of our minds and hearts, as long as we remind ourselves to hope, then our stories will help connect others to water and encourage them to do what they can to help care for this beautiful Blue Marble world.” – Wallace J. Nichols, “Blue Mind”

The interconnectedness of the ocean and climate is undeniably shaping both the economy and society – the impact of the climate crisis on the environment, economy and people’s lives is visible and tangible globally. There is a unique window of opportunity now to disrupt the status quo and leverage opportunities to accelerate change.

No individual action is too small not to make a difference - and collectively, we are even more powerful, and we can make a difference.

We must therefore do all we can to protect the oceans, not simply for our benefits, but for the benefit of our planet and future generations.

My goal with this project was to illustrate how I feel about the ocean through photography, but it was also about raising awareness and giving back by donating part of the profits to ocean conservation.

Oceana is dedicated to protecting and restoring the world's oceans on a global scale by advocating for science-based fishery management and restoring the world's oceans. Oceana seeks to make our oceans as rich, healthy, and abundant as they once were by winning policy victories in the countries that govern much of the world's marine life.

Since its founding, Oceana has won more than 200 victories and protected more than 4.5 million square miles of ocean. Find out more about how Oceana is helping to save the oceans victory by victory.
